The 99 Greatest Works of Nordic Literature

This list presents the literature of the Nordic countries, often glossed as Scandinavia by English speakers but more accurately termed Norden, which means "the North". Norden takes in the northern continental countries of Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland, as well as the North Atlantic islands of Iceland, Greenland and the Faroes.

This list of the greatest Nordic literature is based on the ongoing research and surveys carried out over the past two decades for our flagship Greatest Literature of All Time list. But it also further sources the readers, writer, critics and scholars of Norden.

This list focuses on major creative works—such as novels, novellas, plays and collections—although some short or nonfiction writing of literary significance may also be included.
